Remedy Returns to the Fred
The Remedy Band made their triumphant return to the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater on Friday, July 10th in front of what turned out to be a nearly sold out crowd for the World Classic Rockers concert event. The band performed for nearly forty minutes, managing to squeeze in nine songs during the short but eventful set.
Despite being very warm throughout most of the day with temperatures peaking in the high 80′s, the sun was beginning its descent as the band took the stage, leaving much of the venue shaded and cooling as Remedy began to heat up. Although the band estimated having more than 100 friends and family in the crowd, it was fairly evident that the majority in attendance had not heard of Remedy and were likely unsure of what to expect as the set got underway.
We quickly grabbed their attention with the Stones classic ‘Start Me Up’ and moved right into ‘Hard to Handle’ by the Black Crowes which had people both singing and dancing. ‘Life in the Fast Lane’ turned out to be a great choice as many in attendance applauded after the very first few notes of the song and sang along with the chorus as well, providing some backup vocals to the band as we played. As the set continued with ‘Leave My Little Girl Alone,’ ‘Pride and Joy,’ ‘Johnny B. Goode,’ and ‘House is a Rockin,’ it quickly became evident to all in attendance the band had showed up with the intention of leaving a lasting impression and left no doubt by finishing the audience off with Led Zeppelin’s ‘Heartbreaker’ and the Allman Brothers’ classic, ‘Whipping Post.’
Tim left mouths agape with Jimmy Page’s solo in Heartbreaker, garnering wild applause following the song, while Danny’s piano solo in Johnny B. Goode had them movin’ and shakin’ in the isles. Andy B. and Jon Weakley were in perfect sync throughout the evening and Andy R. provided powerful vocals that complemented the outstanding instrumentals all night long.
As the last notes we played on ‘Whipping Post’ the crowd rose to their feet and rewarded the band’s efforts with a standing ovation. Several regulars of the Fred’s concert series commented that they’d not seen such a reception for an opening band before and that we had clearly exceeded their expectations with the performance. We left feeling incredibly satisfied with our effort and extremely confident that we’d gained a lot more fans than we had showed up with. As evidenced by the patrons who stopped and congratulated each one of us on our performance as we tried to make our way to our seats for the World Classic Rocker’s portion of the concert, the night turned out to be a memorable one for more than just the band.

Heartbreaker, Your Time Has Come
In an effort to routinely improve, diversify and expand on our musical offerings, the Remedy Band has decided to add a fantastic tune to our play list from the album Led Zeppelin II entitled, “Heartbreaker.”
Having heard countless Zeppelin tunes on the radio, you’ve likely heard Heartbreaker a number of times over the years and rather than tackle one of the Zeppelin standards you often hear other bands cover, such as “Rock and Roll” or “The Ocean,” we’ve decided to challenge ourselves with something a little more difficult, rewarding and fun to play.
Collectively, we’re all huge Zeppelin fans and choosing the right song for us to play was not an easy exercise. In the end, we decided on a song that we thought we could do well, would be enjoyable to play and listen to, and something that provided a bit of a challenge. Heartbreaker turned out to be the perfect choice.
As many hard core Zeppelin fans know, Heartbreaker showcases the brilliance of Jimmy Page and one of the most well known guitar solos in Zeppelin’s vast library of songs, if not all of rock. It was with some reservation then, that we decided to tackle the song, as we knew it would be a strain on Tim to learn the complexities of the solo. We knew it wasn’t beyond his ability mind you, but contemplated whether or not it was worth spending substantial amounts of time learning.
As it turns out, it was well worth the effort. We played the song for the first time last night and Tim navigated Page’s muddy solo masterfully, with Andy and Jon adding the additional pieces to the puzzle throughout the song. The timing, sound and fullness of the song was incredible and the tune has very quickly become one of our favorites to play.
Look for us to continue to perfect the song and play it at future gigs and be sure to listen for the solo when we do. We’re fairly confident you won’t hear another local band attempting the song and you most assuredly won’t hear a guitar player (outside of Jimmy Page of course) nail the solo the way Tim does!

Under The Covers
I must admit, I’ve been a bit pedestrian in my choice of postings for my ‘musical musings’ thus far. To date, I’ve toiled over the best bands of all time, the best singers in history and now, my top ten favorite album covers. A bit trite and unimaginative I know, but it really stems from discussions between me and my buddy Scott, which we actually stole from one of our favorite movies, High Fidelity. The conversation would typically start something like this:
Scott – “Top five guitarists of all time….go!
Andy – “Dude, a challenge would be nice. Starting at five, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Jimmy Page.
Scott – “How sadly predictable, but I’d expect that from someone who still listens to David Cassidy records.”
Andy – “Who’d I miss then you %#@$?”
Scott – “Your mom for one, but also perhaps Mark Knopfler you #$@$#$@&.”
Andy – “Who?”
Scott – “Get the hell out of my office.”
And so it would go, day after day, list after list. So it should come as no surprise that some of the first topics up for discussion would be items I’m familiar with and reminisce about so fondly. Also, because I can speak my mind in this forum and not be called names. So, without further delay, here are my top ten favorite album covers of all time!
Well, there you have it. Another list that can be, well, crossed off the list. Now I’ll just wait for my buddy Scott to visit the site, stumble across the article and tell me what a $#%&@ I am.
