Welcome to the Band Gentlemen
Remedy officially welcomes Todd Kline and Steve Smith to the band! The Birdies Wings gig provided us with the first opportunity to play together as a band and, after six straight weeks of practice, we managed to burn the house down, adding 16 new songs the setlist.
Todd Kline brings many years of experience to the band, playing in a wide variety of bands over years. With exceptional skills on the bass, Todd became an instant favorite with Tim and I because of his kind demeanor, affable sense of humor, sharp wit, and musical intelligence. Todd also brings an incredible voice to the group as well, contributing outstanding harmonies on a great number of songs. We hope he and his lovely wife Susan will remain with the band for many years to come!
Steve Smith, former drummer for Collective Soul, brings with him a wealth of knowledge from years of playing on the professional circuit. The consummate perfectionist, Steve strides to make each strike of the snare snap and every kick of the bass bellow. A family man who enjoys playing with his kids just as much as he enjoys playing music, his wonderful wife Lisa and kids are never far away. Steve routinely brings a tremendous amount of passion and energy to both practices and gigs and we look forward to having him drive the band on the drum kit during many future shows.
A Fond Farewell
There are people you come across in life with whom you share an instant connection. You know, from the moment you meet them, there’s great potential for some type of relationship to blossom. Whether a romantic interest, potential friend, or even a new colleague, you’re able to ascertain very quickly whether or not they might reside within the inner circle, or end up standing on the outside looking in.
In my experience with Jon Weakley, friend and band-mate, the connection was instant, and extended to a wide variety of areas. From the outset, regardless of the topic, Jon was able to contribute to just about any conversation, with any audience, and do so confidently and respectfully. With a quick wit, friendly disposition, and keen understanding of the delicate balance between listening and speaking, he’s never been more than a few moments away from offering a compliment, kind word or funny anecdote.
As a band-mate, Jon’s contributions have been invaluable. Always enjoying a very close connection to the music, his knowledge of the genre is encyclopedic, and diverse appreciation of the music admirable. A true student of the songs and the artists who created them, the bass has merely been an extension of his love for the music, and the tool required to play it correctly. Whether strumming the guitar, playing the drums, hitting the congas, or tapping the keys on a piano, making music always appeared to come easily to Jon, but the novelty of playing it never seemed to wear off. Regardless of the song or the instrument he was playing, he consistently greeted each and every note like a new treasure he’d just unearthed.
More than just friends, Jon, Cortney, and Maddie have become like family, participating in birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, and countless other occasions. They’ve become a part of our lives well beyond the monthly gig at the local pub, spending nearly every weekend for the past two years chatting, laughing, and of course, playing music. Consequently, Jon’s been a bit like a little brother to us, and he’s endeared himself to everyone through his kindness, humility, humor and loyalty.
Jon, as we prepare ourselves for our last gig with you, we find ourselves very grateful for having been able to enjoy your company over the past couple of years and wish you and your family the very best of luck with the move. The musicianship and friendship we’ve enjoyed will never be taken for granted, and we can’t express how truly honored we are to have played alongside you.
To Mr. Jonathon Weakley, we open a Dr. Pepper in your honor sir and raise a toast to thee, “The music may have been silenced, but the friendship and the memories will last a lifetime.”
